Holiday Hours and Your Google Business Profile

When someone searches for your business around the holidays, they often want one thing: are you open? If your Google Business Profile shows the wrong hours—or last year's holiday hours—you risk lost customers and frustrated callers. Taking a few minutes to set holiday hours pays off all season.

Why Holiday Hours Matter

Shoppers and service seekers check Google for "open now," "hours today," or your business name. If your profile still shows regular hours on Christmas Eve or New Year's Day, they may assume you're open and show up when you're closed. Or they skip you and go to a competitor whose listing is correct. Either way, wrong hours cost you.

Setting special hours for holidays and key dates keeps your listing accurate and builds trust.

How to Set Holiday Hours in Google Business Profile

Find the right place In Google Business Profile (business.google.com or the app), go to your business, then "Info" or "Profile." Look for "Add special hours" or "Set hours" and choose "Special hours" or "Holiday hours."

Add each date Enter the date and the hours for that day. You can set "Closed" or specific times (e.g. 9 AM–2 PM). Add every day that's different from your regular schedule: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and any other days you're closed or on limited hours.

Double-check After you save, search for your business on Google and confirm the hours that show for those dates. Fix any typos or wrong times before the rush.

Match Your Website

Your website should show the same holiday hours. When your Google listing and your site agree, customers get one clear answer no matter where they look. Update both when you change your schedule.

After the Holidays

When the season is over, remove or update special hours so your regular hours show correctly. An outdated "Closed for Christmas" in February makes your business look inactive. A quick review in early January keeps your profile clean for the rest of the year.

A small update now means fewer wrong assumptions and better experiences for everyone searching for you this winter.
